Paul Bauer is a Managing Director for Mercury. He manages the firm’s government relations practice in Sacramento. Mr. Bauer has a wide range of legislative, regulatory and general government relations experience and has developed a strong working relationship with several California-based private and public sector associations. With nearly 20 years of experience as a registered lobbyist in Sacramento, Mr. Bauer is one of the most experienced young legislative advocates in California. Since joining Mercury, Mr. Bauer led the legislative battle to defeat a bill to ban plastic bags, helped secure over $100 million in state and federal funds for the Colton Crossing project and was instrumental in obtaining $400 million of ARRA stimulus dollars for a major high speed rail project. In addition, Mr. Bauer was the point person in the legislature for California First’s $2.3 billion acquisition of 11 State Properties. This was the State’s largest real estate transaction ever. Prior to joining Mercury, he directed the Legislative Advocacy practice group representing Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP’s water, transportation, private sector and local government clients before the legislature and various government entities. Upon graduation from the University of California San Diego in 1993 Mr. Bauer began his career representing the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
