Peter Lawler

Peter Lawler moved to the North Shore of Chicago when he was 12 years old and has essentially been there ever since. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a finance degree in 1982. After graduating, Lawler worked for 16 years as an independent maker on the Chicago Board Options Exchange, taking a two-year break to earn an MBA from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 1995. In 1997, Lawler joined Spear, Leeds & Kellogg (SLK). In 1999, he moved to a wholly owned subsidiary called First Options of Chicago, where he learned the clearing business. Lawler became a managing director at Goldman Sachs when it bought SLK/First Options in 2000. He coheaded the company’s professional clearing business for six years. In 2006, Lawler moved to PEAK6, where he helped start up an online option brokerage firm called OptionsHouse. He left there in 2009 to start Quivet Neck Capital LLC , which provides consulting services to the options and futures industry. Lawler is currently a board member of Good Sports, a nonprofit that provides new sporting equipment to inner-city athletic programs, and he serves on the board of directors at North Shore Country Club. He previously served on the Board of St. Mary’s Services, an adoption agency, from 2002-2009, and served as its board president from 2006-2009. Lawler and his wife of 31 years, Catherine, have three children, Patrick, 24, Anna, 19, and Will, 16, and a dog named Lily. They live in Wilmette, Illinois.
