Lowenthal also had the opportunity to play a role brokering a compromise between the banking industry and the independent insurance agents that helped pave the way for eventual repeal of Glass-Steagall in the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act of 1999. Lowenthal was Legislative Director for U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York and previously served as her Chief of Staff in the New York City Council. A graduate of Cornell University, Lowenthal, lives in Maryland with his wife and three children.
