Terrence J. McGlinn

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, McGlinn was a successful businessmen. He built McGlinn Capital Management into a $2.5 billion company before selling it to Meridian Bank & Trust Co. in 1995. He continued in a management capacity, retiring in 1999 when the assets reached $4.5 billion. McGlinn also owned All Star Distributing Co. and was an investor in Dimensions Inc. and Narrow Fabric Co. A Trustee of Notre Dame University since 1994, McGlinn also served as a Fellow of the University, the governing body that elects Trustees, adopts and amends bylaws and is specifically charged with maintaining Notre Dame’s Catholic character. He previously served on the advisory council for Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. McGlinn was general partner of Walnut Street Associates, a private investment partnership based in Reading, Pennsylvania. He also was affiliated with several other limited partnerships and was active in numerous philanthropic organizations. Through the Colonial Oaks Foundation, McGlinn and his wife, Barbara, shared more than $16 million in charitable giving to the GoggleWorks, Olivet Boys & Girls Clubs, the United Way of Berks County and other institutions from 1992 to 2015, when it dissolved. The mission is carried on, however, by the McGlinn children. In addition to his wife, Terry is survived by four children: Margaret A. Shields (Patrick), Wyomissing, John F. McGlinn II (Melissa), Malvern, Christine R. Auman (Theodore), Sinking Spring, and Terrence J. McGlinn Jr. (Kristin), Sinking Spring; and by 12 grandchildren: Patrick, Lindsay, Conor and Amy Shields; Daniel, Tait, Johnny and Kelly McGlinn; Theodore Jr., Carter and Margaret Auman; and Terrence J. McGlinn III. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Anne (McGlinn) Strobel, Wyomissing. He was predeceased by two brothers, John F. ("Jack") McGlinn and James F. McGlinn.
