Defense GameTech User's Conference

By Terri Bernhardt The 3rd Annual GameTech User’s Conference took place March 29-31, at the Orlando Hilton. Creating history, with 539 attendees and 89 attending “in world” contributed to one of the many successful aspects of this year’s conference. The event kicked-off very appropriately offering four tutorials: Serious Games, Instructional Systems Design, VBS2 and Virtual Worlds rolling into a break and continuing on with advanced tutorials including Immersive Learning and the future of Military Training Games. gameTech april 2010 Attendees, speakers and exhibitors enjoy the 3rd GameTech Users’ Conference in Orlando. The dynamic keynote speakers: Gen., Melvin Spiese, USMC, Training and Education Command, Will Wright, Stupid Fun Club Inc., Gen. James Mattis, Joint Forces Command and Dr. Larry Johnson, New Media Consortium enhanced breakfast and lunch for attendees offering a wide variety of entertainment and purpose. A small group of committee members hosted Will Wright on a private tour of Research Park’s military simulators. At the conclusion of the tour he stated, “I can speak at a conference anywhere, but I can’t do this anywhere.” GameTech 2010’s exhibit hall was gently laid out to a “full house” of 24 exhibitors eager to showcase their latest gaming technology. In fact, STTC sponsored a virtual world scavenger hunt, with an exhibitor playing host, generating team building for the attendees. General Sessions and Panels continued throughout the remaining of conference, along with other tutorials offering topics such as: top research in gaming, multinational networking, language and cultural training, mobile medic applications and artificial intelligence. “This year’s conference was wildly successful,” stated Pete Marion, Customer Support Executive, U.S. Army PEO STRI, “I would like to bottle exactly what we did right, cork it and drink from its’ elixir next year.” April 8th, 2010|Serious Gaming
