Craig H Metz

Craig Metz has a deep and broad understanding of the inner workings of the federal government. Through the federal legislative branch, executive branch, and private sector government relations positions that he has held during the past 20 years, Mr. Metz has developed a strong background in the authorization and appropriations processes, as well as in a wide range of policy areas, allowing him to develop integrated strategies that reach across the government for the benefit of his clients. Mr. Metz served as the Chief of Staff to the late Congressman Floyd Spence (R-SC) for eight years. He was also a member of the professional staff of the House Committee on Armed Services, serving as a legislative coordinator for the Chairman, during the six years in which Congressman Spence was the Chairman of the Committee. Prior to his position with Congressman Spence, Mr. Metz was an Assistant Director of the Congressional Affairs Division of the American Medical Association (AMA). In this role, he was involved with Federal legislative relations and communications with AMA State Societies. Mr. Metz also served in senior positions in the administration of President George H.W. Bush. At the United States Department of Education, Mr. Metz was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional Liaison, where he was responsible for maintaining working relationships with Senators, Members of Congress, and their staffs concerning Departmental legislative and program actions. Mr. Metz also served as Counsel to a Commissioner at the United States Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC). In this capacity, he served as the chief legal advisor and administrative assistant to one of three Commissioners, who act as appellate judges. Additionally, Mr. Metz served as the Counsel for the Minority (Republicans) on two Subcommittees of the United States Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources (currently, the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions). In both positions, he was, primarily, responsible for advising the Subcommittee's Ranking Member, the late Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC). At the full Committee level, Mr. Metz advised Senator Thurmond on all labor, health, and education issues.
