Mike Malone

Michael J. Malone retired as Chairman of DMX Music, formerly AEI Music Network Inc., a company he founded in 1971. As CEO and Chairman of AEI Music, Malone spent 12 years as a Board Member of the International Business Music Association (IBMA), as well as being a founding Associate member of the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA). Malone built AEI Music into a $100 million plus, multi-national music programming and distribution company with operations in 38 countries before selling, via a merger/buy out with Liberty Media/DMX Music in 2001. In 1994, Mr. Malone was recognized Entrepreneur of the Year by INC Magazine/Merrill Lynch/Ernst & Young, and has been a subject of feature articles in Forbes Magazine, Fortune, New York Times, among others. Mr. Malone has been a speaker at multiple conferences on the subject of music and technology, distribution and copyright licensing. While building an international multi-million dollar music company, Malone in 1981 bought and renovated Seattle’s Historic Sorrento Hotel. In 1996, Malone co-founded a national Hotel Management Company, MTM Management, which successfully managed several independent hotels, similar to The Sorrento, in need of professional management services. Today, Malone has interest in several hotels, including Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA, as well as premier restaurants on the West Coast. In 1980, Mr. Malone secured an FAA Part 135 Air Taxi-Air Charter Certificate and today still owns and operates Erin Air, Inc., a National Jet Charter company based in Seattle. Mr. Malone has been involved in commercial and residential real estate since the early 1980’s and today owns and operates, under Hunters Capital, LLC, multiple commercial, residential and development properties in the greater Seattle area. Active in the community, Mr. Malone is past president and lifetime trustee of PONCHO (Patrons of Northwest Charitable Organization); past chairman and lifetime member of the University of Washington TYEE Board of Advisors, as well as a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee on the University of Washington Foundation. In 1990, Mr. Malone served as the City of Seattle’s Arts Commissioner and has also served as the City’s Commissioner to the Seattle Center. Since 1998, Mr. Malone has served on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Expeditors International (EXPD), a highly successful $9 billion market cap, international freight forwarding company. In 2006, Mr. Malone was elected to the Board of Directors of Take Two Interactive, a publicly traded, $1.3 billion market cap video game company. Born and raised in Seattle, Mr. Malone graduated from the University of Washington.
