Northwest Education Loan Association® (NELA®) is a not-for-profit student loan guarantor that administers the Federal Family Education Loan Program and guarantees payment of loans in the event of default. NELA is an affiliate of USA Funds®. Established in 1960, USA Funds is a nonprofit organization that works to enhance postsecondary education preparedness, access and success. To ensure the highest quality loan service, NELA contracts with Sallie Mae® companies for services, such as operational support, default aversion and customer care service.
