The Story Behind CREW Exposed We want our motivations to be transparent and up front. In 2004, CREW filed a baseless complaint with the Internal Revenue Service alleging that the Center for Consumer Freedom had violated the terms of its status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (the same status CREW enjoys as a supposedly “non-partisan” organization). Despite their failure to successfully attack our nonprofit status, CREW has doggedly pursued CCF, CCF’s affiliated organizations, and many other right-of-center groups, by, among other things, providing reporters with deceptive or patently false misinformation.
