New Direction Local Development Corp. is a charity founded in 2000 by former New York State Senator Malcolm Smith and U.S. Representative Gregory Meeks that used the same address as the law office of lawyer and political operative Joan Flowers. At one time, New Direction Local Development Corp. was linked to a charity set up to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. New Direction Local Development Corp. came under scrutiny in a federal investigation.
