F-Prime Capital Partners. F-Prime is a Johnson-family company based in Cambridge, MA that functions as a global venture capitalist firm, investing in healthcare and technology sectors. Formerly two-separate companies (Fidelity Biosciences and the technology VC fund within Devonshire Investors), F-Prime has grown to 135 global acquisitions as of April 2018, mostly biomedical, pharmaceutical, technological companies. Among its largest acquisitions, Ultragenyx, a biopharmaceutical company focused on rare genetic diseases, earned the Johnson Family $128 million. According to Reuters, F-Prime “competes directly for lucrative deals with the Fidelity funds in which millions of Americans” invest their money. This has been deemed a conflict of interest among securities lawyers, who are concerned that the company is putting its own interest ahead of their clients’ investments.
