Who We Are Housing Trust Silicon Valley is the product of local business and community leaders who organized in 1998 in hopes of lessening the disparity between the growing number of jobs in Silicon Valley and the inadequate supply of affordable housing in the area. Their efforts resulted in $20 million fundraised in two years and the creation of the Housing Trust in 2000, which began distributing funds to low and moderate-income residents in 2001. Since then, Housing Trust Silicon Valley has maintained a spirit of responsiveness, innovation and flexibility with respect to our programs and how they evolve to satisfy the changing needs of our community. What We Do Housing Trust Silicon Valley has offered three main programs since our inception, and we respond to urgent community need by designing new programs where they are needed: Multifamily Lending: HTSV is the only local non-profit lender in Santa Clara County offering early financing for affordable housing which is not available from commercial lenders and directly benefits low and very-low income households. To date HTSV has loaned $77,087,954 toward the creation of 5,880 new affordable multifamily units. Homebuyer Assistance Programs: Our Homebuyer Assistance Programs offer down payment assistance loans for first-time homebuyers. HTSV has made more than 2,500 homebuyer loans, investing over $49,000,000 in local homeowners. Down payment assistance helps low to moderate income households finance their down payment and closing costs, bringing homeownership within reach in Santa Clara County, the second most expensive housing market in the U.S. Finally Home: The Finally Home Grant Program provides security deposit assistance grants to individuals experiencing homelessness, or at risk of becoming homeless that help them move into permanent housing. In response to a need expressed by groups serving homeless populations, Finally Home now offers grants to cover application and utilities deposit costs. We have also increased the amount of our security deposit grants to account for the rising cost of rental housing. Neighborhood Stabilization Program: To respond to the foreclosure crisis, Housing Trust successfully administered a $25 million HUD Neighborhood Stabilization Grant, as lead agency with the City of San Jose and Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley, to stabilize neighborhoods and families hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis. We also created the Foreclosure Help Center – a consortium with two cities and six non-profits for a one-stop foreclosure prevention center, together with homebuyer counseling, credit counseling, legal services and referrals to stabilize families who were at risk of foreclosure or help them transition after foreclosure.
