The Diaspora AI Model Diaspora AI aims to solve two problems with one business model. Problem #1/ how to scale “digital” and “AI” to everyone in resource constrained environments across Africa and the Caribbean. Problem #2/how to increase the AI talent working on Diaspora problems. Partnerships and immersive experiences are key to how we address these challenges. 130829173440-fisherman-artlantique-boat-horizontal-gallery.jpg MAKE AI RELEVANT TO EVERYONE To solve the scaling issue, we work with partners to design technology-driven solutions that will support smarter approaches to cross-Diaspora challenges such as improving food security, managing utility costs while increasing energy and water availability and reducing the occurrence of chronic diseases. Taking a Diaspora perspective allows us to explore the connectedness of common social problems improving project selection, implementation and uptake. Each local team is surrounded with global resources with diverse technical skills. Our hunch is that engineers who are grounded in the local context can ask better questions, driving the development of solutions that are more impactful, relevant and sustainable. We also believe that there are many machine learning and AI researchers that are looking to engage in projects that add up to more than more profit.
