The Marcus Corporation was founded in 1935 by Ben Marcus with the purchase of a single movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin. The company expanded into the lodging business in 1962 with the purchase of The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. Today, The Marcus Corporation is a leader in the lodging and entertainment industries with two divisions, Marcus Theatres® and Marcus® Hotels and Resorts. The company left the restaurant business in 2001. The company's limited-service lodging division was sold in 2006. It has purchased additional theaters and hotel properties, expanding beyond Wisconsin,
