Maui Oceanview LP is a Texas-based development company headed by Paul Sau-Ki Cheng, and it is responsible for bringing this much-needed and affordable community to life. In 2023, the company received $18 million in county funding to build the first 60 residential units with the agreement that Cheng would focus on affordable housing for the island's hardworking residents. The first phase of the project is well underway, and Maui Oceanview LP has now asked for an additional $50 million from the government to continue the project's development. These funds will speed up the construction of this much-needed project. Specifically, it would be applied to build out the infrastructure for the next phase, including water, power and sewer lines.
