Gary H Hunt

Gary Hunt provides strategic counsel drawn from a business career shepherding some of the state’s largest, most controversial land development projects through to approval. A founding partner of California Strategies, Hunt’s experiences extend through the largest master-planned community developers and landowners in the Western United States. Hunt spent over 25 years with The Irvine Company, one of the nation’s largest master planning and land development organizations, and 10 years as its Executive Vice President, serving on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He formerly served as Founding Chairman of the Kennecott Land Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. Previously a member and Lead Independent Director of the Grubb & Ellis Company’s Board of Directors, Hunt stepped in to serve as interim President and Chief Executive Officer for 16 months. During his term, working with Executive Management and the Board, Hunt restructured and positioned the firm for the future. He currently serves on the boards of William Lyon Homes, Glenair Inc., Western National Properties and the Lewis Group. Hunt’s political experience spans over four decades. His career began as a consultant to the California State Legislature and on the staff of then-Gov. Ronald Reagan. He was California State Finance Vice Chairman for Governor Pete Wilson in 1990 and 1994, Finance Chairman in 1998 for the Republican Nominee for Governor and Western Regional Finance Chairman in 2004 for George W. Bush and 2008 presidential campaign of John McCain. Hunt attended Antelope Valley Community College, University of Cincinnati, and Long Beach and Sacramento State College, where he majored in Political Science. He holds a Juris Doctorate from Irvine University School of Law.
