John Lane

John served 34 years in various capacities at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. With his vast knowledge of banking supervision, he advised various parties on regulatory concerns and risk in the sector, including the agency's board of directors, congressional committees, industry representatives and the general public. As a Deputy Director at the FDIC, John established the Complex Financial Institutions branch, providing executive oversight for an organization responsible for horizontal risk assessment of all financial companies with insured subsidiaries and total assets over $10 billion. John also assisted with review and assessment of recovery plans at the five largest banking organizations, and helped develop the operational aspects of implementing FDIC resolution planning under the Dodd-Frank Act. He was instrumental in developing large bank failure simulations for FDIC board of directors, including an interagency exercise to assess risk in the global payment system and form potential strategies to protect it from a failing complex financial institution or an external disruption. As Dean of the College of Corporate Business (FDIC Corporate University), John provided executive oversight to the development and implementation of training programs for three major divisions at the agency. His work has helped shape policy such as Dodd Frank.
