Tim Sanders

Tim Sanders is a founding member of Cornerstone Government Affairs. Tim brings twenty-five years of extensive experience in legislation, appropriations, and management related to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works programs to Cornerstone. He contributes a history of unique knowledge and working relationships with Members of Congress, their staff, and Executive Branch leaders. Tim served as the clerk and staff director at the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Related Agencies. In this role, Tim was responsible for congressional funding of a myriad of programs ranging from nutrition (Food Stamps, WIC etc,); rural development (water and sewer, housing, etc.); conservation (NRCS, watershed, CRP, etc.), research (ARS, CSREES, etc.) and the Food and Drug Administration, totaling over $60 billion annually. His tenure with the Committee, which lasted more than 15 years, has led him to be considered one of the leading experts in the congressional appropriations process. Tim has been consulting and lobbying since 1999 when he retired from the House appropriations committee. He has worked on behalf of a large number of entities including cities, corporate interests, trade associations, and non-profits. He has broad expertise in issues ranging from USDA, EPA, financial services, and Interior Department. In 2007, his efforts assisted in obtaining $180 million of federal funding in support of land grant colleges’ research and extension priorities. Additionally, Tim served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow, working with the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water on hydropower, waterways and ports, solar, renewable, nuclear, fusion, and energy waste environmental management programs. Tim began his federal career with the Army Corps of Engineers in 1973 as a Park Ranger. He earned a B.S. in Park Management from Central Missouri State University and has continued his education with credit toward M.B.A. and Engineering degrees.
