Susan Sweat joined Cornerstone Government Affairs in 2011 after a decade of service as staff member in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Susan’s Capitol Hill career included service as the Legislative Director for a southern member of the Senate Armed Services, Commerce, Environment & Public Works, and Budget Committees and House Appropriations and Budget Committees. From appropriations requests to education policy, Susan provided strategic and tactical counsel to the Senator, a member of the Republican whip teams in both the House and Senate, while leading a legislative staff that worked diligently to advance his policy goals. As Legislative Director, Susan gained significant experience in managing government operations, devising floor and committee strategies, and implementing legislative processes. She counts health care, education, appropriations, and budget as among her key areas of policy expertise. Susan has shepherded several bills successfully through the legislative process and has helped secure millions of dollars in federal appropriations for municipal, non-profit, and corporate constituents. She has a strong working knowledge of the processes and strategies necessary for success in the current political environment on the Hill. Susan received her Masters in Liberal Studies, Social and Domestic Public Policy from Georgetown University. A native Mississippian, she attended Mississippi College and received her B.A. in Communications.
