Samuel Hiersteiner

Samuel Hiersteiner is a Vice President at The Glover Park Group, where he focuses on strategic communications, advocacy campaign strategy and execution, coalition management, grassroots engagement, and new and traditional media relations. Over his more than four years with GPG, Mr. Hiersteiner has helped lead the firm’s work with non-profits and foundations, particularly in the areas of international development and global health. He also works in GPG’s entertainment practice, where he helps major film and media production companies establish advocacy and promotion partnerships with organizations on important topics including human rights, international development, and other social issues. Currently, Mr. Hiersteiner manages communications and grassroots outreach and coordination for the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN), a coalition of influential development organizations, former public officials, and concerned individuals advocating for foreign assistance reform. He also manages the group’s website, which has tripled its audience reach over the last year with the addition of new media tools, grassroots actions, and dynamic graphic features. Over the last year, MFAN and its member groups have helped drive increased public dialogue around the issue of making U.S. foreign assistance more effective and accountable, and as a result, the movement towards reform has occurred in the White House, the State Department, and Congress. Mr. Hiersteiner has also served other leading nonprofits and foundations while at GPG, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ONE, Oxfam America, the Office of the United Nations’ Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Malaria, The Elders, FINCA International, the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty, World Wildlife Fund US, Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, and the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Before joining GPG, Mr. Hiersteiner worked for Burson-Marsteller, the global public relations firm, where he focused on corporate social responsibility, corporate philanthropy and reputation management. For the last five years, Mr. Hiersteiner has volunteered his time and effort to help D.C. non-profits including EverybodyWinsDC! and Urban Alliance provide mentorship and career skills to public school students. Hiersteiner graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in modern European history.
