Donald Argus

Donald Argus is an Australian businessman. After a long career at National Australia Bank he was appointed CEO in 1990, serving in that role for nearly ten years. Mr Argus joined the board of BHP in 1996, and was elected its chairman in 1999. He oversaw BHP's merger in 2001 with the Anglo-African miner Billiton, and chaired BHP Billiton until 2010. Mr Argus has also served as chairman of Brambles, the Australian support services business, and was on the board of the winemaker Southcorp. He is chairman of the advisory board of Bank of America Merrill Lynch Australia, and is a director of Australian Foundation Investment Company. He was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2010.
