Gary Pollard

Gary Pollard has served the last six years as Chief of Staff in the Michigan Senate. In 2010, he became Chief of Staff to Fred Durhal, Michigan House of Representatives. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, conducting special constituent projects, working with community organizations and representing Representative Durhal at pertinent public meetings. He previously served in the State Senate as Chief of Staff to Senator Martha G. Scott, and in the same position to State Representative Fred Durhal and Executive Assistant to former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer. In November 2008, Pollard was elected to the Wayne State University Board of Governors. Gary serves on various community boards such as The Detroit River International Crossing Advisory Council and Core City Neighborhoods. He has been recognized for his service and commitment toward serving the community. A lifelong Detroiter, Gary attended Detroit Public Schools. He continued his education at Ferris State University, and graduated with a BA in Business Administration. Mr. Pollard became an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He continues to be a dedicated member today, working on the “Build The Dream” National Memorial Project. A veteran of the United States Navy, Gary works with various veteran groups and on veteran affairs issues. As a member of the American Legion Coleman A. Young Post 202, he is involved with various Veterans Day events and the Annual Detroit Veterans Parade. Mr. Pollard served as Master of Ceremonies at the 2008 Veteran’s Day Dinner. Mr. Pollard’s involvement in politics is extensive. He is a DNC Academy graduate. Gary has worked on various campaigns over the years and managed State Senator Irma Clark-Coleman’s successful 2006 campaign. He is a current Vice Chair of the 14th Congressional District Democratic Party organization and is the former Statutory Vice Chair of the 15th District. Over the years Gary has served in various capacities in both district organizations. Twice elected to serve at the Democratic National Convention as a Michigan Delegate, he was also elected by his colleagues to the 2000 Presidential Electoral College. Gary is a devoted husband to the former Pearlanne Metoyer; they have six children. He draws his spiritual strength through his faith as a Christian and worships at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
