Andrew M. Shepard is the president, chief executive officer and founder of the Maine Winter Sports Center—a non-profit economic development corporation that uses cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and biathlon to create a new economic and cultural model for rural communities in Maine. The Center is active through volunteer outing clubs in 96 communities across the state and is responsible for getting thousands of kids off the couch and into a healthy, active, outdoor lifestyle each year. In addition, events held at the Center's world-class nordic venues annually bring millions of dollars in economic impact to rural communities in Maine. The Maine Winter Sports Center has won a number of national and international awards for its innovative approach to finding a sustainable model for rural communities. Prior to founding the Maine Winter Sports Center, Mr. Shepard spent 14 years with retail giant L.L.Bean, as a leader in the Men's Apparel and Sporting Goods divisions, before becoming Merchandise Manager for the Retail division as they began their national expansion strategy.
