Thomas E. Bradford, Sr., food broker, was born February 18, 1909, at Sweetwater, Alabama. He earned the B.S. degree at Birmingham-Southern College in 1932. He graduated in Business Administration, Harvard Graduate School, Boston, Massachusetts, 1933. He served to the rank of lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, 1943-45. He entered the food brokerage business in 1939 and became Chairman of the Board of Bradford Gipin, Ind. Food Brokers, Birmingham. He has been a director of several organizations: Marengo Corporation; Southtrust Bank; Allied Products Company; Mrs. Stratton's Salads, Inc.; and Sunbelt Sweeteners, Inc. His civic activities include: the United Way, Park and Recreation Board; State of Alabama Board of Corrections, The Eye Foundation, Inc., Metropolitan Development Board, and the Birmingham Area Chamber of Commerce. He married Mary Johnson on July 1, 1933, and they have two sons: Thomas E., Jr., and John M. Thomas E. Bradford, Sr. died in 2002.
