Greg Riels is a director of government affairs in the federal government relations and advocacy practice at Bracewell & Giuliani. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a senior staff member and military advisor to a U.S. Senator on the Armed Services Committee and for over ten years as a decorated active duty naval aviator and former aide and executive assistant to an admiral in charge of six naval bases, 9,000 personnel and a budget of $600 million. He is no stranger to high pressure situations and high level responsibilities, and has significant experience in personnel management, risk assessment, project development, analytical problem solving and executive consultation, in addition to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. Mr. Riels assists defense, defense-related, and homeland security clients in promoting their federal policy and appropriations objectives in Washington, D.C. Having worked for a senator representing a state with the most comprehensive Army base in the nation, the largest concentration of Sailors and Marines in the world, two Air Force bases, and over ten Coast Guard Stations, he provides unique value-added benefit to clients with interests in these areas. Additionally, he advises Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Businesses on how to best work with the federal government. An expert in the legislative process, most notably in the national security arena, he has worked with all of the service branches and has the unique ability to bridge operational and programmatic issues with the legislative and political framework. Mr. Riels continues to serve and fly as an officer in the Navy Reserve Force.
