Gage, a local Emmy award wining television reporter who grew up in Berkeley, has worked in recent years to lead fundraising efforts for the furnishing and support of Berkeley’s public libraries. Schacht Gage is also the founding chair of the author’s dinner, a Berkeley Public Library Foundation fundraiser. Moving to Washington after graduation, Linda Schacht worked on the Robert Kennedy campaign of 1968, then trained as a news reporter, supporting her new husband John, a student radical and leading Vietnam protester. When John Gage went on to found a pioneering Internet company, Schacht-Gage left journalism to raise her two children.
