Katie is executive director of the International Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (IAHSA) and chief operations officer/senior vice president of LeadingAge. As an NGO, IAHSA serves as a global network of organizations in more than 30 countries that provide care and services to people as they age. LeadingAge is a national umbrella organization of nonprofit community-based organizations that provide care and services in the United States. Katie’s work is focused on building a stronger and more effective global network, fostering relationships among key stakeholders, and strategic planning. She is also responsible for managing the operational aspects of both organizations to enable them to grow. She joined LeadingAge in 2002 after having served in a number of key leadership positions at AARP. Katie has a strong commitment to the consumer movement, and serves as secretary-treasurer of the Consumer Federation of America and on the board of Consumer Checkbook/Center for the Study of Services. She also serves on the board of directors of Friends Council on Education and HelpAge USA. She has a master’s degree from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College. Not only is Katie an SFS alumna, but all three of her children are also Sidwell Friends graduates—Christopher Sloan ’04, Jennifer Sloan ’07, and Moria Sloan ’11. Her father is former SFS Head of School Robert L. Smith.
