Anthony A Newcomb

Anthony Newcomb, Ph.D. Princeton, is Emeritus Professor of Italian Studies and Music. He is a scholar of Italian secular music and poetry, 1550-1630, with a special interest in patterns of patronage and the history of printing. His work has primarily centered around Ferrara and Rome, but his most recent work is extending southward toward Naples. His most recent major publication is a seven-volume edition with extensive critical commentary of the texts and musical settings of the Ferrarese composers Luzzasco Luzzaschi and Alfonso Fontanelli (publications 1570-1605), including the largely unpublished poetry of the school of Ferrarese poets set (two volumes out; three further volumes with the publisher). Other recent articles concern texts, music, and patronage in Rome, 1575-1600.
