Jasper Johns iconic 1958 painting “Flag” set the record for the highest known price paid for an artwork by a living artist in 2010, when hedge fund billionaire Steven A. Cohen captured it for $110 million. Johns, widely regarded as America’s foremost living artist, announced in 2017 that he had made arrangements for his 170-acre estate in Litchfield County, Connecticut, to be turned into a non-profit artists’ retreat after his demise, offering three-month residencies to visual artists, musicians, dancers, writers and poets. However, his former residence and studio in upstate New York has just become available for purchase.
