Daniel Gagnier, Dan served as Senior Vice President for Corporate and External Affairs of Alcan Inc. from January 1995 to 2007. Mr. Gagnier has extensive work experience in energy, environmental issues and public policy, both in the private sector and with provincial and federal governments. He served as Senior Vice President of Corporate and External Affairs at Rio Tinto Alcan, Inc. from January 1995 to 2007. His extensive experience includes various positions with the governments of Canada, Ontario and Saskatchewan. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Chief of Staff to Quebec Premier Jean Charest. Mr. Gagnier's responsibilities include corporate communications, government relations and environment health and safety. He served as Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Alcan since December 1994, and in 1995, his responsibilities were expanded to include environment, occupational health and safety issues on a worldwide basis. Prior to joining Alcan, Mr. Gagnier held senior administrative positions with the Government of Canada. Mr. Gagnier served as Deputy Minister of Energy, Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Special Advisor to the Cabinet, and Chief of Staff to the Premier's Office for the Government of Ontario. At the federal level, he held the positions of Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Communications) and Advisor at the Privy Council Office in the early 1990, in addition to diplomatic assignments in Mexico, Yugoslavia and the United Kingdom from 1972 to 1982. He serves as a Director of the Asia-Pacific Foundation. He served as a Director of Canada Health Infoway, Inc. He serves as a Director of Sustainable Development Technology Canada. He served as a Director of Alcan France SAS. He served as a Director of Pechiney, a subsidiary of Alcan Inc. Mr. Gagnier serves as Chairman of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). Mr. Gagnier has Chaired the Boards of various organizations, including the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Canadian Standards Association and the International Emissions Trading Association. He is a member of the Genome Canada Board of Directors. Mr. Gagnier is a member of the Board of Governors, McGill University. Volunteer Campaign Co-Chair for the Liberals in the Canadian 2015 Federal Election, dismissed due to emailing lobbying advice to TransCanada: Dan Gagnier "sent a detailed email to people behind the Energy East pipeline with advice on how and when to lobby a new government — including a Liberal minority." "In the email, a copy of which was obtained by The Canadian Press, Gagnier advises five TransCanada Corp. officials to target the right people in a new government as quickly as possible so they can help shape either Liberal or NDP decisions on a national energy strategy."
