Kit Laybourne's career has blended his passions for being a teacher, producer, author, and an enthusiast of new technologies. Most recently Kit was a founder and Chief Creative Officer of The Whistle, a multi-platform media company that brings together kids and sports. Kit is one of the team that developed Oxygen Media, a cable TV network for women, where he served as an executive producer, director, and the head of units working in Animation, DV Production, and Interactive Narratives. Earlier in his career, Kit founded Noyes & Laybourne, an independent production studio with animator Eli Noyes. For a decade this TriBeCa based company engaged in broadcast branding, animation, TV commercials, and kids TV programming. From 1996-1997, Kit was Senior Vice President for Creative Production at Tele-TV, an interactive television venture formed by three of the regional Bell telephone companies. Kit is a recognized authority in the area of animation. His how-to volume, "The Animation Book," was republished in 1998 as an edition that covers emerging digital animation techniques. The volume has become a standard text where animation is taught, with over 100,000 copies in print. Kit’s most recent book “Mediapedia” is an highly illustrated glossary of digital aesthetics. It was published by Globe Pequot Press in 2009. Kit was Associate Professor within the New School’s MA Program in Media Studies where he taught courses about Media Design, Producing, and Short Films. He taught for 8 years from 2002 and for another 8 starting in mid 1970's. His community service currently includes work with Earth Vision Trust and Bard High School Early College program.
