Steven Kimmelman

Steve Kimmelman was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from Cleveland State University. As the Chief Executive Officer and Founding Principal, Steve is responsible for all aspects of operations, administration and investment at Redwood Communities Group LLC. Starting with a small number of properties, Steve formed Kimmelman and Company in 1991. In the ensuing two decades, Steve and investors have expanded the portfolio of apartment homes by moving throughout the Midwest (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Iowa) and into North and South Carolina. Steve’s entrepreneurial passion centers on strategic development of high quality single-story apartment homes with private attached garages. As a result of his extensive analysis of housing trends and market dynamics, Steve decided to focus specifically on the single-story, open-floor plan, and attached garage design. He believes that the growth of the “renter-by-choice” population demands the qualitative response that Redwood provides, and the success of this approach continues to be validated in new markets. It is Steve’s single-mindedness of vision and persistence of effort that has allowed Redwood to succeed in the volatile housing industry. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and is a student of all things having to do with the creation, development and execution of business models and plans. When Steve is not intensively focusing on his business, he loves spending time with his two daughters.
