Cynthia Phipps

Cynthia Phipps, a thoroughbred owner and breeder and a philanthropist, died from injuries suffered in a fire at her home in Manhattan. She was 62. Ms. Phipps, the daughter of the horseman Ogden Phipps, served for eight years as chairman of the Animal Medical Center, a nonprofit veterinary hospital in New York. She is survived by a brother, Ogden Mills (Dinny) Phipps, chairman of the Jockey Club; a half-brother, Robert L. Phipps of Ridgeland, S.C.; and two half-sisters, Lillian Rousseau of Palm Beach, Fla., and Florence Chase of Locust Valley, N.Y.
