Heller joined EDS' Systems Engineering Development Program in 1968. In 1969, he moved to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, to work as a systems engineer in the implementation of the Pennsylvania Medicare account. After this implementation, he returned to Dallas as a member of the Medicare Central Support group. During the next 18 months, he helped implement Medicare systems in California, Iowa, Indiana, New York and Boston. He also assisted in systems conversions for Medicare in Texas, California and Pennsylvania. After participating in a New York Stock Exchange sales study in 1970, Heller served in a series of technical management positions. In 1972, he was named manager of the newly created regional data center in Dallas. A year later, he became the regional manager of EDS' health care business in the eastern United States. In 1974, he was named a corporate vice president, with responsibility for hardware planning, software, telecommunications and the EDS Service Corporation. In 1979, he became the head of the newly formed Technical Services group. In 1984, Heller moved to Detroit to lead the effort to integrate General Motors' data processing and communications resources with EDS' infrastructure. When that project was completed in 1987, he returned to Dallas. He became a senior vice president in 1987 and was named president and chief operating officer in 1996. Heller serves on the board of directors of the Dallas Symphony Association, Mutual of Omaha, Cotton Bowl Athletic Association and Temple-Inland. He is a member of the University of Texas Chancellor's Council, the University of Texas Engineering Foundation Advisory Council, the University of Texas McCombs School of Business Advisory Council, the University of Texas Development Board, the Longhorn Foundation and is a trustee of the Southwestern Medical Foundation. Jeff Heller received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
