As a member of Platzner International Group, a real estate firm started by his father, Herbert Platzner owned the New Rochelle Railroad Station from 1968 to 1981, despite several challenges from the city to overtake the property. He also owned or managed millions of square feet of co-op and condo units in Westchester over more than five decades, according to the company's website. "Herb Platzner was an entrepreneur and a visionary," his grandson, Adam Platzner, said. "He loved Westchester and loved New Rochelle and saw so much promise, and he had an amazing vision of what New Rochelle could be." Born May 9, 1923, in New York, Herbert Platzner served in the U.S. Army during World War II, his grandson said. He returned home and attended New York University, where he met his wife, Marilyn, in 1946. He later joined his father's real estate business in the Bronx. Herbert Platzner was heavily involved in the Jewish community, his grandson said. He served for decades on the Board of Directors at both United Hebrew in Westchester and the Morse Life Health System of Palm Beach, Florida. He was president, chairman and chairman emeritus of both organizations. Herbert Platzner also donated millions of dollars to law enforcement philanthropies nationwide, including the New Rochelle Police Association, his grandson said. In addition to his wife and grandson, Herbert Platzner is survived by his children, Sharon, Corey, Harrin and Merrick, his grandchildren, Jared, Casey, Barrett, Brooke, Jason, Nathaniel and Lianna and great-grandchildren, Benji and Harper.
