Dr. Susanne F. Homant

Dr. Susanne Homant is President and CEO of The Able Trust, a statewide foundation dedicated to creating successful employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The Trust, created in 1990 by the state legislature, has provided grants totaling more than $28 million, and has served all 67 counties in Florida. Grant projects of the Trust serve people of all ages and all disabilities, and through its work with grantees, The Able Trust has helped to put thousands of people with disabilities to work. Sue has been with The Able Trust since 2007, and is responsible for the operations of the organization. Her previous experience includes executive management work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Florida, the Florida Hospices and Palliative Care Organization, and the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, and the Michigan Health and Hospital Association. She has over 25 years of experience at the statewide level in health care and similar organizations. She earned her MBA degree in finance & marketing from Northern Michigan University, and her Doctorate in Public Administration at Western Michigan University. Sue grew up in a family that included a father, mother, and brother with different disabilities, has a nephew who was born deaf, and a stepson with a serious mental illness. She has chosen a career dedicated to helping people with challenges due to her experience with the successful lives of her own family members. She is an active volunteer, and supports several local charities. She was recently appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities, serves on the Board of Trustees of the Florida Chamber Foundation, and performs in a local Bell Choir.
