Megan’s profile photo Megan Golden Published on LinkedIn Dear Friends and Colleagues, I wanted to tell you about an exciting new venture I am launching in partnership with my brother, Eric Golden. On Friday, I wrapped up my work at the Institute for Child Success, where I was helping jurisdictions across the country to explore an innovative funding mechanism called Pay for Success financing as a way to improve child health and wellbeing. I am forever grateful to the visionary Joe Waters for giving me the opportunity to do this important work at ICS. My new venture will use outcome-based financing and impact investing to cure a disease—pancreatitis—that is afflicting my brother. I believe that by bringing those that bear the costs of the disease to the table with other stakeholders, incentivizing collaborative efforts to achieve specific, agreed-upon outcomes in a specific timeframe, and leveraging the resources and expertise of impact investors, we can develop effective treatments for this disease and demonstrate a model for curing others. Our tentative name is Mission: CP (Cure Pancreatitis), and our goal is to find and implement effective treatments for chronic pancreatitis within 8 years. The National Pancreas Foundation and numerous leaders in pancreatic research and treatment are enthusiastic supporters and partners in this effort. The idea is that we will invest in a portfolio of strategies—from potential treatments that use already approved drugs to better pain management to early identification through biomarkers and genetic testing—that will enable us to reduce the bad outcomes of pancreatitis within 8 years. Those bearing the cost of the disease will work together with clinicians, patients, researchers, pharmaceutical companies and impact investors to make sure we succeed in that timeframe. Stay tuned for more information. And if you have ideas, information, or contacts that could help our efforts to cure a disease using outcome-based funding and impact investing, please contact me. We need more impact investing products that track impact. Mission: Cure is developing such a vehicle to cure disease, starting with pancreatitis. We are creating a disease-focused impact investing opportunity that is laser-focused on improving patient outcomes using cutting edge technology as well as less profitable repurposing of generic drugs.
