A former senior Australian public servant and a former officer in the Australian Army Reserve.[1] She was the Secretary of the Department of Human Services from March 2011 to September 2017, then the Secretary of the Department of Social Services from September 2017 to July 2021, and then the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade from July 2021 to July 2022.[2][3] On 4 June 2018, Campbell was additionally announced as the next commander of the 2nd Division on promotion to major general; the first woman to be appointed to the role.[citation needed] In 2017 Campbell was summoned to an Australian Senate committee inquiry into the illegal debt recovery system, commonly referred to as Robodebt.[4][5][6]. A class-action lawsuit was brought against the Australian government which resulted in a $1.7 Billion settlement. The settlement is the largest ever settlement in Australia's history.[7]
