Anthony Lomangino

Anthony Lomangino ran garbage collection businesses in New York and South Florida. He founded the South Florida waste hauling company Southern Waste Systems, which was acquired by Waste Management in 2015. Anthony Lomangino had worked at Allied Sanitation, his family's business, since he was 10. But after college he bought into a Long Island liquor store where he'd worked part-time because he saw more potential to grow. In 1978, he changed his mind and bought into Queens-based Allied, one of the city's largest private garbage-collection companies. The personable Mr. Lomangino, who had done maintenance and worked routes, was playing to his strengths: "I understand this business from the bottom to the top." Recognizing the potential in recycling, Mr. Lomangino started a second company, Star Recycling Inc., to separate the functions. Mr. Lomangino has served throughout his career in many leadership and board positions in the industry. A graduate of St. John's University, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business Administration.
