Ainsworth retired in 2020 as group president of the energy and transportation segment for Caterpillar Inc. Earlier, he was SVP and strategic advisor to Caterpillar's executive committee, and responsible for Caterpillar's rail division. Previously, he was president and CEO of Progress Rail which was acquirexc by Caterpillar in 2006.
