Marshall I Wais Jr

Wais has been active in supporting the University through his work on several committees and boards. He is a member of the Alumni Association Board of Governors and chairman of the San Francisco Bay Area Volunteer Campaign Committee. He is also a member of the Visiting Committee on the College and Student Activities and is supporting the Campaign for the Next Century through his establishment of an endowment to provide undergraduate scholarships. A native of Chicago, Wais received his A.B. in history from the University in 1963, when he was captain of the fencing team. He received his M.B.A. in 1965 from Harvard. Wais began his career at Caine Steel in Chicago in 1966 and became a vice president at Marwais Steel in 1970. He became president and CEO of Marwais Steel in 1989. Wais is also a trustee of the American Library of Paris, the World Affairs Council of Northern California and the University of California-Berkeley Art Museum. He is married to Hyde Park native Deborah (Podore) Wais (A.B.'63), and they have three children, including son Adam, who graduated from the College in 1990.
