Jesse Sullivan is an Illinois native who founded Alter Global in San Francisco. He announced his candidacy for Governor from his hometown of Petersburg, Illinois. Most of the 37-year-old's campaign donations are from California contributors. Sullivan received seven-figure donations from Chris Larsen ($5 million), Kevin Taweel ($4 million) and Robert and Dorothy King ($1 million), all of the San Francisco metropolitan area, according to documents filed in Petersburg. Sullivan has never held public office before. He is the founder and CEO of Alter Global, a San Francisco-based venture capitalist firm, and has foreign policy experience, working for the Haitian Embassy to the United States of America in 2010 in addition to serving as a strategic analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense from 2011 to 2012. He has graduate degrees from the University of Oxford and Stanford University. He also was awarded an undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University.
