Alex Amouyel, executive director of MIT Solve, has been named the president and chief executive officer of the Newman’s Own Foundation, the charity established by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, a longtime Westport resident. Amouyel takes the helm of Newman’s Own as it reported last year it surpassed $600 million in charitable donations since it was established by the actor in 1982. The foundation’s donations represent 100 percent of the profits from sales of Newman’s Own food and beverages, according to a press statement. Amouyel succeeds Miriam E. Nelson, Ph.D., who is retiring after three years in the post.
