Brian Thompson

Brian Thompson was the chief executive of Minnetonka-based UnitedHealthcare. It is a division of parent Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group, which is the fourth-largest public company in America behind Walmart, Amazon and Apple. Thompson managed a division that employs about 140,000 people and offers insurance plans to employers and individuals, including people enrolled in government programs. Thompson was named chief executive of the insurance division in April 2021. For several years prior, he ran the Medicare Advantage business within UnitedHealthcare.Thompson was an executive with the company for two decades. Before joining UnitedHealthcare, Mr. Thompson spent nearly seven years at the accounting and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, now known as PwC. He graduated in 1997 from the University of Iowa.
