Foley has previously worked as a federal prosecutor within the DOJ for 23 years. The DOJ said she brings extensive experience in prosecuting complex federal crimes and leading significant department operations. Foley first served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and later the District of Massachusetts after she joined the office in 2006 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Foley prosecuted violent crimes, sex crimes, felony narcotics and firearms cases, the DOJ said.
