George Christ cofounded software company Altair Engineering with fellow billionaire James Scapa in 1985. Christ retired before Altair went public in 2017 but remains the company's second largest individual shareholder with a 12% stake. Scapa, who has served as CEO since Altair's founding, owns 21% of the Troy, Michigan-based company. In January 2025, Altair agreed to be acquired by German tech giant Siemens for $10.6 billion in cash. The deal is expected to close during the second half of 2025. According to Forbes, his current net worth is estimated at $1.7 billion. He resides in Paradise Valley Arizona.
