Lawrence "Larry" Leser, a Cincinnati native, started with Scripps in 1968 as secretary-treasurer. In 1975, he became financial vice president. He was president and CEO from 1985 to 1998 and was chairman of the Scripps board from 1994 to 1999. Leser died Monday October 21, 2024. He was 89. In a 2008 split of Scripps into two publicly traded companies, The E.W. Scripps Company and Scripps Networks Interactive. Leser graduated from St. Xavier High School and earned a degree in business administration from Xavier University in 1957. After graduation, he joined the Cincinnati accounting firm Haskins and Sells for 11 years as a certified professional accountant. Leser served on Xavier University's board and established the Lawrence A. and Anne J. Leser Scholarship Fund. He also served on the boards of directors for Union Central Life Insurance Company and AK Steel. He is survived by his wife Charmaine Leser. He and his late wife, Anne Johnson Leser, had five children: Kathleen, Lawrence M., Sharon, Nancy, and Anne’s son, Charles.
