Since February 1997, William Michael Warren, Jr., has been chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Energen Corporation, the holding company of Alabama Gas Corporation and Energen Resources Corporation. Mike Warren, the oldest of six sons, moved to Alabama at the age of seven. He grew up in Auburn where he and his wife Anne were in the same sixth grade class. He graduated with honors from Auburn University and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi. After graduating from Duke University School of Law, he began practicing with Bradley, Arant, Rose & White in 1971. In 1983, Mr. Warren joined Energen, becoming president of Alabama Gas Corporation in 1984 and president of Energen in 1991. Mr. Warren served as one of the eight members of the Alabama Education Study Commission. He later served as chairman of the Alabama Commission on School Performance and Accountability and Governor Riley's Commission on the General Fund. He served for five years as a member of the Mountain Brook School Board and is a member of the board of Birmingham-Southern College. Mr. Warren has served as chairman of the Business Council of Alabama, the United Way, Children's Hospital, and Leadership Alabama. He also has been chairman of the Metropolitan Development Board, the Alabama Symphony, and the area American Heart Association. He is a past general campaign chairman for both the United Way and the United Negro College Fund. He currently serves as chairman of the Children and Women's Health System Joint Venture and is a board member of Leadership Birmingham and the Health Services Foundation. He is also a member of the board of Protective Life Corporation and Associated Electric and Gas Insurance Services, Ltd., a mutual insurance company serving the public utility industry. He is married to Anne McLeod Warren, and they have three children and six grandchildren.
