Husband and wife couple's Hong Kong-listed Soho China has thrived in a Beijing property market with commercial sites such as Chaoyangmen Soho by Zaha Hadid Architects. The company is now making a big splash in Shanghai, with four investments since 2009 in key Shanghai areas: One in Jing'an, one along the Bund, one in the new Hongqiao Transportation Hub district and the latest, in October, right next to Xintiandi. Pan is one of China's most popular bloggers. Zhang, formally an executive with Goldman Sachs, speaks English fluently and attended the World Economic Forum meeting at Davos this year.
