Joseph P. Campanelli, vice chairman, Sovereign Bancorp, and president & chief executive officer, Sovereign Bank New England, has been named the 2005 campaign chairman for United Ways of New England (UWONE). Under Mr. Campanelli's leadership UWONE staff and volunteers will work with over 30 of the largest companies throughout the New England region to raise funds that support programs helping to strengthen families and nurture children and youth. Mr. Campanelli assumed the title of chief executive officer for Sovereign Bank New England in January 2005. In this role he has total responsibility for all bank operations in the New England region. Mr. Campanelli is also an active member of the community, serving on various professional, civic and charitable organizations and is recognized as an innovative leader.
